Hello and goodbye, July! So many new experiences, so much learning, so much creating of new things with amazing people! This post – attempting to make up for all the ones I’ve missed – looks quite a lot like a load of holiday snaps and most of July it did feel like I was a tourist in my own best life.
First there was wrestling biblical heroine #Judith into an audience-ready yarn for brilliant #womenwhogavenofucks @storyjamstories @ancient_technology_centre. An absolute bucket list moment, performing in the best storytelling venue in the country, programmed by the best storytelling promoter, among a group of storytellers who I admire so much. If I’m honest, their performances – bursting with wit, humour and stagecraft (we were in the round) as well as commitment and charisma – wiped the floor with mine … but I just about held my own, and learned a lot in the process.

Then there was being welcomed back to @underground_venues @buxtonfringe for Portents – an evening of Bad Omen stories with Sam’s spooky theremin sounds, plus getting to share a stage with the inimitable @polistakespics in the mix. We got even got shortlisted for the ‘Best Spoken Word’ award there, and got a very kind review, which I may dine out on for a while …
Then finally making it to @gladstoneslibrary for a mini reading retreat to stock up the story well. Thus recharged, since then I’ve been a shanty-singing uke-playing pirate, a story explorer, a noh student, a show-in-progress flogger, a creation myth excavator – and started a rather exciting new writing project of which more soon I hope.
More creative adventures coming up in the next few weeks too with @autographabp, @atypicalreader (can’t wait!) @museumofthehome @young.vam and a festival or two. Bring it onnnnn!!! #creativityeveryday #summeradventures #gratitude
